Fiber Amplifier
Fiber amplifiers are optical amplifiers with doped fibers as gain media. Erbium-doped and ytterbium-doped fiber amplifiers are the most important types.
Fiber amplifiers cannot only amplify continuous signals, but also short or even ultrashort light pulses. Here, one can utilize that such an amplifier stores a substantial amount of energy, which can then be released within a very short while through an intense pulse.
